On the photo showing the 1925 8th grade class of P.S. 99 in Kew Gardens, Queens. This was probably taken on assembly day - a once a week all-school gathering. As late as the 1960s in NYC there were strict guidelines on appropriate wear for assembly day. Girls had to wear middy blouses with red scarves, or collared blouses with red scarves, over navy blue skirts. Boys had to wear dark slacks (no jeans), white shirts and red ties.
