  6. Today’s subject is Jeanne Paquin, an extremely influential turn of the century designer, who in 1891 became the first woman to independently open a Parisian fashion house. During her time as the head of the House of Paquin (1891-1920), Jeanne enjoyed a reputation equal to that of Worth and Doucet. Paquin became known for her use of pastels as well as her knowledge of publicity. She would often send models wearing her newest designs to the opera or the races just to increase brand awareness and word of mouth. Shown above is a delightful Paquin ball gown dating to 1895.
